10 Questions with Daniel Dye
Florida driver Daniel Dye is in the middle of one of the biggest weeks of racing at the famous 5 Flags Speedway and yet was gracious enough to take some time to answer a few questions for us while at the track waiting on practice for the Snowflake today.
In addition to an exciting week in Pensacola, Dye celebrated his 16th birthday yesterday. I did forget to ask if he was able to get his driver’s license and drive himself to the track this morning.
No stranger to 5 Flags, Daniel competed in the Allen Turner series this year where he thinks he finished an overall 6th.
Dye has an understanding that the track is tough on tires and that the key is to save them to be successful. Another focus this weekend is finding the balance with the car between making the race and running well in the race.
If you cannot make it to Pensacola you can catch the races on Speed 51, and you can find Daniel Dye Racing in the #43 Ben Kennedy car.
TLC: What made you want to get your start in racing?
DD: My dad got a quarter midget for me when I was younger and we started racing and I enjoyed it a lot. We’ve started to move up and now we’ve been doing this late-model deal for about a year.
TLC: Who was your idol driver growing up?
DD: Richard Petty. My dad always talked about him when I was younger. You always want to be like the greatest of all time.
TLC: If you could go back in time and attend any race of any discipline, what race would you choose?
DD: I don’t know. I think racing back when social media wasn’t a thing would be fun. Social media can be a great platform but it’s also home to a lot of negativity. Maybe the late 90’s and early 2000’s because that’s when my dad raced.
TLC: If you could pick any current cup driver to have as a teammate, who would you pick and why?
DD: Tyler Reddick or Kyle Busch. They’re both wheelmen and know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about.
TLC: What is your favorite memory at the race track? Driver or spectator?
DD: I’d probably say the Baby Rattler this year. We had to go to the back like twice because I got spun but we managed to finish back up in 4th.
TLC: If you didn’t get to be a race car driver, what would be your next career choice?
DD: The business side of NASCAR, whether that was for corporate NASCAR or a team.
TLC: What is your favorite unhealthy thing to eat?
DD: Fast food.
TLC: What is your favorite show to binge-watch?
DD: I don’t really watch a lot of TV but I like Trailer Park Boys
TLC: What is your top music choice for road-trips?
DD: My taste in music is all over the place, so it’d depend on when you asked me. Right now it’d probably be some Post Malone.
TLC: What is your favorite hobby outside of racing?
DD: iRacing and video games
