The newly revamped CARS Pro Late Model Tour (replaces the Super Late Model Division) kicks off this weekend with the Puryear Tank Lines Old North State Nationals at Caraway Speedway presented by GXS Wraps. The Pro Late Model Tour includes a total of 12 races and the Late Model Stocks are planning on a 15 race season with stops at tracks including Hickory Motor Speedway with the popular throwback race, Langley Speedway, Ace Speedway, and bookending the season at Caraway Speedway Nov. 5.
This is the fourth year for this event and is the first time it is the season opener for the CARS Tour. The Late Model Stock drivers will run 200 laps around the track and the winner will take home a remarkable $30,000. The change in schedule was designed to help bring a little more excitement and interest to the series early in the season that has seen big changes.
The other big change in the season was to move this race from Orange County Speedway to Caraway Speedway. The Old North State Nationals had been exclusively held at Orange County since the beginning with the exception of 2020 when the race was moved to Greenville-Pickens due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Past winners of the Old North State Nationals include Leed Pulliam and current NASCAR Xfinity driver Josh Berry.
Making his CARS Tour debut this weekend is Charlie Keeven from Hazlewood, MO. I asked Charlie about his this weekend and his plans for the year. “Well, I’m running the full CARS Tour season and going for the championship,” Charlie told me. I’ve got a newish car that I just got and I’m hoping for some pretty tough competition this weekend, and praying we don’t have to stay down here another day due to rain. I’m also running for a new team which is called Hurricane Motorsports and my crew chief for the season is gonna be Tommy Sytsma with Buggy Pletcher helping some as well.”
The racing schedule currently calls for Late Model Stock qualifying races beginning at 4 PM Saturday followed by the 100 lap Pro Late Feature. The 200 lap Old North State Nationals is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM Sunday.
