Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville

4/1/2022 Season Opener

Saturday, April 2 marks the 118th season of auto racing at the historic ⅝ mile in Nashville, TN.

The 7 in one program will include Bandoleros, Legends, Front Runners, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Limited Late Models, and a 118 lap Pro Late Model feature commemorating the 118th year of racing at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

Expect to see most of the Nashville regulars in attendance, as drivers and fans alike have been eagerly waiting for the opening day after a long offseason of preparation for this day.  One notable driver missing from the field will be Kulwicki Driver Development Program finalist, Jackson Boone, tas the team is unable to secure the parts and equipment necessary to race. Boone stated in a Facebook post that they will never show up to the track unless they have the resources to compete and WIN.

Defending track champion, Michael House is expected to be racing this weekend in Nashville.  House defeated the 2020 track champion, Dylan Fetcho, by a narrow margin for the championship.  Fetcho is expected to be in attendance this weekend as well.

Rock Motorsports will be fielding a car at Nashville. Casey Roderick has most recently been the driver of the 14R car, however as this was a late decision for the team, Roderick will have the weekend off for other commitments and the driver will be announced soon.

Hartsville TN driver, Garrett Dies will be back to compete for the track championship with the help of Pitboxes.com, Jackie w. Gaither, Gittin There Trucking, LLC, and JMP Gaither. Dies finished 7th in the season opener last year and already has plans in place for the first race of the year. “I plan to lay back and let everyone do what they want to do,” Dies said. “The first race of the year everyone wants to win on the first lap.  We’ll make our way to the front about lap 70.”

As for goals for himself and the team for the year, he hopes to come away from every race with more knowledge.  The goal is always to win, but realistically at Nashville, we are happy to come away with a top 5 and the car in one piece.

Dies thought he and the team would have an easy off-season replacing only body panels.  As it often happens, things did not go according to plans.  The team pulled the motor and worked on shocks after discovering they had run 2to 3 races with a broken shock.

Solid plans for the year are to run the full season at the Fairgrounds but Dies and the team may venture to run some CARS Tour races or races at MontgomeryMotor Speedway.  Montgomery is the logical place to try next as the team does have additional insight into the track with chassis builder Augie Grill and additional setup help from Ronnie Sanders, both of who have a lot of experience with that track.

Dies is still looking for additional marketing partners, but what is special to him about his current sponsors is that all of his sponsors are a close-knit group.  Gittin There Trucking is a company from Dies’ very small town and races with Dies’s dad and helped him out.  Other sponsors attend the same church and the family and sponsors often have dinner together.  Any business looking for a little more than just a marketing avenue does not need to look any further than Garrett Dies.

Racing at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville begins at 5 PM and tickets may be purchased early at a discounted cost. Tickets will also be sold at the track on race day.

If you are unable to make the trip to Nashville you may watch the season opener and all Nashville races on Racing America.
